Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey made landfall near San Jose Island, Texas August 25, 2017 as a Category 4 hurricane, and became the strongest hurricane since 2005. It continued to produce massive amounts of rain and flash flooding, causing widespread damage.

According to worldvision.org, Hurricane Harvey affected 13 million people, damaged or destroyed 135,000 homes, and caused 88 deaths.

Do Your Part was ready to assist the most vulnerable families impacted by this devastation with the challenges of short and long term recovery needs and resources. We had a case manager who, with local organizations, helped the most vulnerable individuals and families to regain a sense of normalcy in their lives. Many families are/were uninsured, or under-insured, and are in great need of assistance. In a widespread catastrophic event like this, it was imperative to focus on families and individuals without back up resources. Funds were distributed in the form of gift cards; grants for building and repair materials; and emergency housing, to aid people with their urgent immediate and long term recovery needs.
